Tanglin Trust School

-

Maia, Year 13, Singaporean

I’ve been at Tanglin for six years. I’m currently in my final year and I’m the Head Girl 2021-22.

One of the things that I love most about Tanglin is the supportive community. I’m grateful for my teachers, who always go above and beyond to help me achieve my academic goals. They’ve given me many opportunities to take on leadership roles, mentor younger students and pursue my interests beyond the classroom.

I love problem-solving and challenging myself so my favourite subject is Maths. It links very well with Physics, where I can apply my mathematical knowledge to real life situations.

The school trip to Australia in Year 11 was the major highlight for me. Trekking through the outback for eight days was extremely hard work but it felt like a great achievement when we arrived back at the base. That trip taught me to appreciate the most basic things that I take for granted at home such as clean water and a bed.

I’ve been playing Touch Rugby for four years and through the Touch community, I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone and made many new friends. I travelled to Brisbane to play in a tournament with my friends and I’ll never forget that.

I don’t have a clear idea of what I’d like to do, but if I could do anything, I would love to travel the world and start a business.
