Kids' Guide

How do you get around Singapore? Can you share some tips for public transport or taxis with children?

We find the best way to get around with a newborn is with Grab. We usually opt for a premium car as they are larger and can accommodate a car seat and stroller easily. Make sure you purchase a car seat that’s compatible with your pram – it will make outings a whole lot easier!

We use taxis. Before the pandemic when the kids were a bit younger, we had a taxi that knew their schedule and took them to their daily activities with the helper. It was always the same driver or his father – a lovely family who knew the kids and us; we paid them monthly. This was a tip from a friend in Singapore before we moved here, and it was very practical (and reassuring not having to have the kids looking around for taxis).

I fortunately have a car so that makes it convenient for me. I grew up in LA with a car and have been driving since I was 15, so I really found it challenging not having a car in Singapore when I first arrived, given there was no Uber or Grab at the time. Jessica

WE USE MRT, BUSES AND GRAB. Sharon

We’re very blessed to have a car. But as I cannot drive (yes, I’m a 37-yearold woman who doesn’t have a driver’s licence!), I take Grab cars. For Sienna, I use a portable seat called Urban Kanga; for Sarah, I use the baby seat that came with our Mothercare pram. I’m really not a fan of taking a bus with prams; if I have to take a bus with my baby, I’ll wear her.

I HAVE A

CAR AND I DRIVE EVERYWHERE. IT’S A GREAT WAY TO GET TO LEARN ABOUT SINGAPORE AND IT ALSO GIVES YOU THE FREEDOM TO JUST HOP, DRIVE AND EXPLORE. HAVING SAID THAT, IT’S VERY EASY TO TRAVEL AROUND THE ISLAND BY TAXI AND BUS.

WE CHOSE NOT TO BUY A CAR, SO TAXIS AND SCHOOL BUSES ARE OUR CHOSEN MODE OF TRANSPORT. WE ALSO LOVE TO DINE AT OUR LOCAL RESTAURANTS SO THIS HASN’T BEEN A HUGE PROBLEM AT ALL.
