Unlocking Potential
Part of the global network of USA-based Applied Behavior Consultants and with over
30 years of helping children with autism and other developmental needs,
ABC (Applied Behavior Consultants) uses a recognised therapy approach called Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), a clinically proven method for intervention for children with autism.
ABC Center is one of the pioneers of ABA therapy in Singapore. When it was established, it was the first centre in the country to have a board-certified Behavior Analyst. Today, the clinical team, headed by Ms Hui Ling Loh, BCBA, comprises some of the most experienced professionals in ABA therapy in the country.
How do you know if this is the right therapy for your child? Here are some areas that ABC Center focuses on: teaching language and communication, cognitive, perception and social skills, instilling independence; and alleviating “negative” behaviour (tantrums, self-injury, rigidity and so on). children who used to throw tantrums, cause self-injury or hurt others no longer engaging in destructive behaviours; children who have limited social skills learning how to get along with others; and children who are unable to follow instructions in school learning to behave properly.
The team believes there’s no onesize-fits-all. All its programmes are individualised for each child’s needs. A thorough assessment is made of the child’s skill sets, and from there a plan is created. Because of this customisation, children are accepted across different age groups, from infants to young adults. Their conditions range from low- to high-functioning, with differing intellectual capabilities and co-morbidities (for example, autism and anxiety, autism and visual/hearing impairments and so on).
