A first look at Jewel Changi Airport, a revolutionar y lifestyle destination that looks set to transform Singapore

Scheduled to open in early 2019, Jewel Changi Airport is set to become an iconic destination for travelers to and through Singapore. The site, fronting Changi Airport Terminal 1, has been envisaged to capture passenger mindshare and boost Singapore’s appeal as a stopover point, offering aviation and travel-related facilities, as well as a wide range of retail offerings, unique leisure attractions and alfresco dining.

A mixed-use complex, the building is a striking futuristic bubble of glass and steel designed by a consortium led by world renowned architect Moshe Safdie, the visionary behind another Singapore icon, Marina Bay Sands.

Comprising five storeys above ground and five basement storeys, the complex covers a total gross floor area of about 134,000 square metres and will be directly connected to – and within – walking distance of Terminals 1, 2 and 3. A key feature of the design is the breathtaking 40-metre high Rain Vortex, located at the central core of the complex, where visitors will see it brought to life every night in an enchanting light and sound show.

Shoppers and diners alike will love the mix of approximately 300 retail stores and F&B restaurants, set to introduce exciting new- toSingapore concepts, top international brands, and home-grown names. Jewel will also house one of the largest indoor collections of plants in Singapore, with around 22,000 square metres of space dedicated to landscaping throughout the complex. A centrepiece attraction will be the Forest Valley, a huge five-storey garden filled with thousands of trees and plants.

Additional lifestyle offerings will be available at Canopy Park, located at the topmost level of Jewel, where further attractions, gardens, walking trails, and dining outlets will delight visitors. From bouncing 25m above the ground in the Sky Nets to exploring two mazes and sculpture playgrounds, Canopy Park will offer the 21st century answer to the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Spectacular, design conscious and natural, Jewel is worth a trip to Singapore alone. The only question is when to plan your visit.
