Heading south takes you to the canton of Vaud and the core of fine watchmaking. The Vallée de Joux is home to villages that include Le Sentier and Le Brassus as well as some of the most notable names in high watchmaking. The most significant of which in this area is JaegerLecoultre. The Richemont-owned watchmaker houses over 180 crafts in its manufacture. If you have the opportunity and the weather is great, go wind-surfing or sailing on the Lac de Joux (Jura lake). It’s 1,000 metres above sea level and is the most massive body of water in the region. Along with great watchmaking, Le Sentier is well-known for great food and fresh lake fish. Check out the Bellevue Le Rocheray for great dining, but if you’re a city-lovin’ person, then crash in Geneva for the night. After all, driving there takes just slightly over an hour. That way, you can enjoy the best of both worlds.
