Gilbert Cheah mines a long career in traditional and new media for his latest turn as webcast host

I’m no stranger to non-print and non-traditional media. In NYC, I was the VP of a media company with print and digital platforms. My first job in Singapore was as a VP at Channel I, a broadcast station under SPH MediaWorks. Later on, as Managing Director at Tatler Singapore, we launched the website and digital apps. I have always been a big believer in content across all possible platforms.

Four years ago, I launched Healthzone Singapore on Facebook and accumulated over 12,000 followers in Singapore. Happy-TV then approached me to create Healthzone digital TV show. Our video content reaches far more people than any other media because it is aired across IGTV, YouTube, Facebook Watch, Spotify, iTunes, etc. We’ve had hundreds of thousands of views in just four months. Healthzone covers a range of topics from senior health to child health; our audience is equally divided between males and females, 25-45 years old. We have a sizeable number of seniors, which is gratifying, as I want to reach out to them to say it’s never too late to live healthily.

Healthzone’s concept delivers topical, relevant, accurate, important health and wellness information and advice to Singapore and regional audiences. There’s a lot of health information out there, but very little is filtered and shaped for local needs. Our diets, lifestyles, and health issues are different from the West’s – I wanted to tailor the content of both Healthzone on FB and Healthzone TV to the local population.

We do not give medical advice; we are health journalists, not doctors. We focus on health and wellness from a preventative and not a curative perspective — the advice, insights, and information are to help people stay healthy, get healthier, and prevent and forestall illnesses and injuries.

I hope to continue educating and enlightening people through these shows; to have more guests, and to reach a wider audience across the region. Health and wellness is a subject that interests everyone, regardless of nationality, age, income, or background. Everyone has a right to accurate and relevant information that can help them be their healthiest self. If you will, my mission is to make sure we can get that information out there to as many people as possible in as many ways as we can.
