PT CARSURIN

-

Privately-owned Indonesian company Carsurin provides inspection, testing, certification and verification services. Its widely diversified business straddles multiple industries and sectors, including coal, minerals and metals, oil and gas, petroleum and petrochemicals, maritime and offshore, industrial equipment, food and agricultural commodities, and consumer goods. Established in 1968, it counts more than 20 branch offices, 15 multi-purpose laboratories, and a growing international presence across Southeast Asia supported by an 800-member team.

Diversification has allowed Carsurin to weather the COVID storm, claims its owner Sheila Tiwan, who is also the company’s president and CEO. Some sectors have slowed down due to business contraction during the pandemic, which resulted in lower imports of consumer products from around Asia-Pacific, and lower volumes of raw coal exports to China. However, other sectors have blossomed ,Tiwan observes.

“A larger emphasis on secondary and tertiary domestic processing of minerals, as well as changing flows of petroleum products have both brought significant positive impact to our business in the past year.As challenging a year as 2020 has been for many, we are fortunate to have completed the period with net positive growth,” she adds.

PRODUCTS, DELIVERY AND VALUES

Carsurin’s range of products and services has remained consistent, with growth based on taking market share as well as expanding geographic coverage.“The focus of our new products and services is heavily centered on minimizing risks for our clients by integrating technology with our services. The utilization of emerging technologies, like our industryleading drone solutions featuring analytics based on artificial intelligence, enables us to offer not only cost savings through a more efficient service, but better answers to clients’ most critical questions.”

Tiwan points out that her company’s core values play a major role in guiding it towards the maintenance of quality among its people – “equating to a hiring program based on character, alignment of the company’s core values and culture fit as priority prior to furthering the interview process.” During the pandemic, she claims, the said requirements prevail. However, besides character, alignment with the core values and culture fit, stronger technology, presentation, coordination, and communication skills – although already on the previous hiring check list – have been further elevated.

“Nurturing and development are considered top priority at Carsurin, not only in technical but more over soft skills. Thousands of hours are dedicated to developing our team skills and increase on an annual basis,” Tiwan adds.

“AS WE CONTINUE ON OUR PATH TO FULL DIGITALIZATION, OUR ONLINE TRANSACTION AL VALUE CHAIN WILL PROVIDE BIG DATA ANALYTICS TO SYSTEMATICALLY EXTRACT CORRELATION SAND OTHER INSIGHTS.”

BROAD NEW PRODUCTS SCOPE

The company’s target audience for its more traditional services remains unchanged. However, its new products and services range addresses a much wider audience within any particular client group – from operations level up to senior group management – as company data analytics deliver added-value from the most granular level to the helicopter view, providing business insights that enhance decision-making, Tiwan emphasizes.

“Like so many businesses, the past year has most certainly changed the manner in which we engage with our clients,” Tiwan underscores.“The transformation to online meetings has been striking, and will likely never return entirely to the pre-2020 days, but our interaction with clients continues to develop in more profound ways.

“As we continue on our path to full digitalization, we can already envisage the stage where our entirely online transactional value chain provides big data analytics to systematically extract correlations and other insights, in addition to the basic level of efficiency and transparency demanded by the market.”

Tiwan views Carsurin’s role as an independent third party to be the risks reduction risks for its customers .“Whether that risk is commercial, economic, safety or environmental-related means that the professional execution of our services will naturally bring about a positive impact on the larger community. We strive to distribute that impact in as wide a pathway as possible.”
