Prestige (Singapore)

CHECKING IN…

-

How has 2019 started off for you? It’s been a mini whirlwind for us at Prestige. After months of furtive work on getting our January cover story with Lucy Liu and a shoot in

NYC off the ground, we finally unveiled the issue at a VIP dinner on the 10th, followed by hosting our society friends at the vernissage of the Hollywood star’s first-ever museum exhibition the next evening (page 62). I could scarce believe the turnout at the National Museum of Singapore and how many poised adults suddenly turned star-struck red carpet fans when Lucy swung by our VIP lounge. (A quick digression: As I write this, the art world is reeling from the abrupt cancellation of Art Stage Singapore announced yesterday, a mere nine days before its planned opening.)

Barely a week later, we threw our very first 40 Under 40 Party for our Class of 2018. Who cares if this comes six months after we published our list – we finally did it! It was wonderful to finally get our young Leaders, Creatives, Change-makers and Titans in the same room, as it had been something on the Prestige team’s wish list for years. It’s my personal conviction that whether entrepreneurs or intrapreneurs or creatives, no one can blaze a trail alone. Hopefully, our get-togethers will ignite amazing new ideas and collaborations down the line – but if nothing else, more meaningful connections among purpose-driven individuals have been formed. No ice-breakers necessary – our 40U40-listers and friends readily mixed, mingled and conversed the night away!

I really have to hand it to our amazing marketing and events team: Audrey, Sue Anne and Joie, led by gal boss Ane, for pulling together the party. And, of course, our editorial and art teams, who all pitched in to send out invitations and design the night’s collaterals. Shout out to our partners, Straits Clan, Perrier-jouët and Chivas, as well as 3bosses, which added a whole new dimension to our bash with augmented reality. Much love, all!

Onward to February, our month of love. Our cover darlings are mother-daughter pair Grace and Coco Chng, who touched us by sharing their deep Christian faith that bonds them (story on page 74). And what’s Valentine’s Day without flowers? Sarah Lim, the founder of Poppy Flora Studio, shares how she’s living the dream with botanical art (page 68). And because I’m personally obsessed with self-hacking – alas, I don’t practise what I learn enough – I found tech entrepreneur Melvin Yuan’s obsession with productivity absolutely fascinating (page 70). Please tell me I’m not alone in this.

There are lots of other wondrous things to fall in love with in these pages. Enjoy, and Happy Valentine’s Day and Gong Xi Fa Cai!
