The Birkin comes with a playful puzzle-like update this season after delighting fans with a shoulder strap accessory in Spring/summer 2021. Hermès deconstructs the icon into two separate components of a pouch and a bag cast in grained Barénia Faubourg calfskin. Crafted in H canvas and complete with the familiar flap of the Birkin in smooth Barénia calfskin, the pouch can be carried as a chic clutch. Place it into the bag and the pair transforms into a three-in-one Birkin – one multi-functional bag comprising two elements with three uses. It is evocative of the three-act presentation for the extraordinary Autumn/ Winter 2021 show put together by Nadège Vanhee-cybulski, artistic director of women’s ready-to-wear. The live performance took viewers to New York, Paris and Shanghai as it explored three different ways of breathing life into clothes through movement.
