EDITOR’S LETTER
In the blink of an eye, Prestige has turned 21! While we eagerly await better days to come and would like to give ourselves a pat on the back, I think it is important that we count our blessings and take stock of the journey that took us here. And for that, I’d like to place the spotlight on those of you who have made it happen. Yes, to all our esteemed readers, clients, associates, supporters and vendors, a big Thank You from our team!
We would have loved to meet and celebrate with you this month, but the situation is not yet ideal and we promise to make it up when things look better. Meanwhile, what we have done to commemorate this milestone is to reach into our network of loyal friends, and get them to participate in a photo special. By golly, have we not been completely overwhelmed and heartened by the enthusiasm! We asked for images of their young selves, at a time when they have come of age, and the response has just been unbelievable.
Some of them had to rummage their store rooms to hunt down old photo albums, some had to go back to the parents’, and some had to scroll through years of their digital image archives. And since photographs are never complete without context, wait until you hear the stories behind them. Turning 21 for Nina Ng was a significant occasion that also involved Prestige. Jacelyn Lai, Lai Chan, Pauline Chan, Race Wong and Sharon Heng tell us how important those moments of arrival are.
We wouldn’t have thought it easy to get hold of old 21st birthday celebration photos, but guess what? Dana Cheong, Tiara Shaw, Amanda Leong, Kelly Keak, Lai Shanru, Michelle Eng and Tan Khar Nai found theirs for us! We also discovered that some society personalities – Susanna Kang, Lotus Soh, Sulian Tan-wijaya and Chia Ngiang Hong – were already head-turners and models early in their adulthood. We deeply, madly appreciate everyone’s kind gesture in helping us make this feature happen, including second-gen readers Josh Quan and Louisa Ong.
In the spirit of revelry, our stories this month are also big, bold, wild and wonderful.
