DREAM GIRL
If Kim Jones had played it safe in his women’s ready-to-wear debut with Fendi-familiar luxurious neutrals, this sophomore collection’s vivacious brights manifest his growing confidence as he eases into his place in the family-founded heritage maison. His inspiration came from a hand-sketched logo by the late Antonio Lopez, an influential fashion illustrator and a pal of his predecessor, Karl Lagerfeld. Just as the artist’s expressive brushstrokes and sassy figurative drawings captured the zeitgeist of the disco era, the abstract graphic of a rouge-lipped Jerry Hallesque model brimming with vibrant psychedelic glamour on this Peekaboo bag also strikes a chord in these ambiguous times.
“Our woman has let loose a bit – she’s going out, dressing up. We’ve all been locked away for so long that I think that’s what we all need right now,” reflects Jones, underscoring Fendi’s irreverence with renewed emancipation and empowerment that’s invigorating in more ways than one.
