Nackymade
Based in Kobe, Japan, this is one of the world’s few eyewear ateliers that creates a pair of glasses from start to finish (usually, certain aspects – polishing, cutting, designing, to name just three – are outsourced). This is possible thanks to the catholic experiences of Naoki Nakagawa, who runs Nackymade with his wife Mocky: starting at the age of 17, Nakagawa worked for an optometrist, a design company and then a retail outlet in order to fully grasp every nuance of luxury eyewear making, then spent a further eight years as an autodidact, honing every aspect of what he sees as a hallowed craft.
