Robb Report Singapore

Editor’s Letter

- Karishma Tulsidas Editor-in-Chief

EARLIER THIS YEAR, over G&Ts at one of Singapore’s top private clubs, an investor friend of mine confided that she was selling all her real estate so that she could focus on investing in businesses and ideas. “It’s the next big thing,” she exclaimed, and it got me thinking. Property prices in metropolitan cities have been jacked up to such astronomical heights that real estate is no longer a foolproof investment. Recent reports also suggest that millennials are wary of approaching the stock market too.

So what exactly are they doing to gain long-term returns? Investing in people and their great, amazing, wonderful, groundbreaking ideas, clearly. While every other person I’ve been meeting lately seems to have a brilliant idea for a start-up, finding a true visionary is almost as rare as finding someone who’s not looking to start their own venture these days.

For our Icons & Investments issue, we asked our community of Robb Report Thought Leaders to single out the Singaporeans who are truly having an impact in their industries. These are the visionaries who are shaking up the way we eat, drink, work, shop and consume art. Meet these icons on p.72.

Speaking of icons, we snagged an interview with the team behind Convex Strategies who are in the business of investing in risk. Whether they’re visionary or kamikaze, we leave you to decide (p.42).

This month, we’re hosting our biggest extravaganza of the year, Robb Report Ultimate Drives, where we’re taking over the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre Hall C for three days, from 1st to 3rd November. The fourth edition returns with a bang and it’s our biggest one yet. Along with a convoy of luxury cars that guest drivers are invited to put to the test, there’ll also be a showcase of more than 70 classic cars from the likes of Aston Martin, Jaguar, Ferrari and more. Visit www.robbreport.com.sg for the details and I look forward to seeing you for three days of automotive madness.
