Robb Report Singapore

The Sweet Spot

To secure your dream home, remember this mantra: Not too (insert adjective). Not too (insert antonym of previous adjective). Just right.

Achieving a perfect balance isn’t easy, but we managed to do it at the Concourse Skyline Penthouse by Robb Report. Find out how we did it.

YOU KNOW THE story by now: Goldilocks broke into the home of the three bears and acted as if she were the rightful tenant, eating their porridge, sitting on their chairs and even sleeping on their beds.

A rather despicable act – something I think we can all agree on. But I’m not here to judge. Instead, I’d like to draw your attention to the untold silver lining of Goldilock’s (mis)adventure.

The fictional character knew the preferred temperature of her porridge, size of her chair and softness of her bed for one reason. She took her time to try things out, even if it meant going to two extremes. And that’s something we can learn from because that’s how we find out what suits us best. Think about the first car, watch and other big-ticket investments we’ve made. How many of these have we kept? Perhaps some for sentimental value, and others, probably let go of to make way for others. One thing’s for sure, the more we learn and the more decisions we make, the more refined our tastes will become.

Nailing the Location

And it’s the same when it comes to purchasing homes. The top three criteria will always be location, location, location. But what is the right location in Singapore? It should be near the CBD, give or take a 10-minute drive radius. It shouldn’t be right smack in the city lest you have to endure daily traffic jams during rush hour or worse, the occasional road closure.

Which brings us to Concourse Skyline located on Beach Road, developed by Hong Fok Corporation.

The super penthouse sits on the cuff of the city and

boasts 360-degree views of Marina Bay, the Kallang Riverfront, Bugis and Kampong Glam from its perch on the 39th to 41st floors of the residential building. It takes just five minutes to get to Dhoby Ghaut or Marina Bay Sands, 10 to Raffles Place. And if you’d like to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, Singapore Changi Airport is just a 15-minute drive away.

In late 2018, Robb Report took over its threestorey super penthouse and together with luxury interior design firm The ID Dept, flipped it to embody the Robb Report lifestyle.

Is Bigger Better?

Next to consider: size. Depending on the number of people in your family, you’ll have to take into consideration the rooms and size of entertainment areas. Ideally, and where possible, set aside a room or two that can easily be converted into a guest bedroom.

The penthouse comes with 16 zones, which may seem like far too many for a two-bedroom property. But The Reverie, the designated spa room, can also double as a guest room when the need calls for it.

And because all other zones – including The Library – come with en-suite bathrooms, you’ll always have alternatives. Then you should take into account the amount of entertaining you’ll be doing and with that the areas that would be accessible to guests and spaces you’d like to keep private.

Because The Salon and Epicurean Odyssey offer views of the barrage and sea, the design team took this opportunity to collaborate with the glass craftsmen from Lasvit. Mouth-blown orbs that mimic Tahitian, Golden South Sea and Akoya pearls hang from above the grand piano; not unlike musical notes that metaphorically drift as compositions are being played, while at the same time reminding one of the bivalves found in the ocean. A hidden powder room was added to The Salon, ensuring guests don’t have to step foot into private grounds.

In The Bureau, you’ll look out to the snaking

Kallang Basin. While it does require stretching one’s imagination, the deep blue hue is etched in the room in the form of a burnt turquoise crocodile-leather textured wallpaper. It lends a rather fun pop of colour to the room while complementing the ITT Solar 6 chandelier, brought to Singapore by Affluency.

The Skyline on level three is where you’ll enjoy evening grills and sundowners. Keeping in mind you’re surrounded by a concrete jungle, the area is designed to look like a rooftop garden, lined with rows of potted plants and bar chairs by Xtra. Here, you’ll get to enjoy the thrice-yearly fireworks: New Year’s, Singapore Grand Prix and National Day. You’re close enough to enjoy the action, but at the same time, able to relax in the comfort of your home.

Now, given the price tag of this penthouse, along with the fact that it’s fully furnished, it wouldn’t be on the radar of one who’s looking to receive his or her first set of keys. But for those on the lookout for their next holiday home or investment property, this may be it. Of course, we wouldn’t want to give too much away.
