The Oscar Is Yours
The organisation that brings you the Oscars every year has recently opened a museum that celebrates the art of film. Los Angeles is now home to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, a newly minted architectural landmark that occupies a seven-storey, 300,000 sq ft spherical building made from concrete and glass. And beyond its cutting-edge facade sits one of the museum’s key permanent exhibitions called Stories of Cinema, a retrospective that dives deep into the process of modern-day film-making. In a bid to offer patrons an experience that closely resembles the real deal, a simulation aptly named The Oscars Experience allows them to live an A-lister’s triumphant moment of receiving an Academy Award, complete with all the frills, in front of a crowd. The museum kicked off its opening with an exhibition honouring Hayao Miyazaki, the illustrious film-maker who brought about the rise of Studio Ghibli. The retrospective is scheduled to end on 5 June.
