A Slow Teething by Rachel Jones
Auctioned by Sotheby’s in London for £617,400
British visual artist Rachel Jones is only 31, but the impressive performance of A Slow Teething reflects the significant attention she’s received since graduating from the Royal Academy Schools in 2019. At The Now Evening Sale held by Sotheby’s London, where the painting made its auction debut, Jones’s work sold for nearly nine times its top estimate. An illuminating example of the artist’s marriage of the figurative and the abstract, her kaleidoscopic use of colour and treatment of the mouth as a key motif are visible in this oil pastel and oil stick on canvas piece.
