Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante

-

This year, Parmigiani Fleurier uses the Tonda PF as a base for a slew of complicated endeavours, including a worldfirst in the Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante (CHF26,000). In its default state, it looks like a clean two-hand watch with a 40mm steel case and bracelet and rhodium-plated hands. It is otherwise sparse in embellishment, save for guilloche dial and knurled bezel. Look closer, and it is revealed that the bezel is platinum, and there is a pusher at eight o’clock. This controls the GMT function, which will cause the hour hand to jump forward with each push, representing local time. This reveals the rose gold home time hand beneath. The choice of material is quite deliberate – ‘home is where the heart is’ is the sentiment, and the warmth of rose gold reflects that. It is for this reason that the pusher on the crown, which returns the local hour hand to home time, is also in rose gold. The piece is an intuitive, easy-to-use complication, and no other manufacture has yet done it quite this way.
