Wayne Gretzky’s game-used hockey stick
Bidding commences on 6 September through Sotheby’s online
One of 16 rare and highly prized sports memorabilia lots up for offer at Sotheby’s online Invictus Part II auction, Wayne Gretzky’s ice hockey stick from his final career game carries a top pre-auction estimate of US$200,000. The all-time point leader of the National Hockey League in North America, Gretzky accumulated the final point of his career – the 2,857th, to be exact – in front of a sold-out crowd at Madison Square Garden in New York City in 1999. This Hespeler CS Pro hockey stick, formed from wood and carbon fibre, is the only photomatched example from the Canadian player’s final game to appear at auction.
