One of 16 rare and highly prized sports memorabili­a lots up for offer at Sotheby’s online Invictus Part II auction, Wayne Gretzky’s ice hockey stick from his final career game carries a top pre-auction estimate of US$200,000. The all-time point leader of the National Hockey League in North America, Gretzky accumulate­d the final point of his career – the 2,857th, to be exact – in front of a sold-out crowd at Madison Square Garden in New York City in 1999. This Hespeler CS Pro hockey stick, formed from wood and carbon fibre, is the only photomatch­ed example from the Canadian player’s final game to appear at auction.
