Buzz Aldrin’s Apollo 11 jacket

Auctioned by Sotheby’s in New York for US$2.8 million

-

Arguably one of the most famous jackets in existence, astronaut Edwin ‘Buzz’ Aldrin’s Apollo 11 inflight coverall jacket became the most valuable American space-flown artefact sold at auction over the course of a 10-minute bidding war. Worn during Aldrin’s historic 1969 mission to the moon and back, this was the only flown garment from the Apollo 11 voyage to be made available for private ownership. The name ‘E Aldrin’ is printed above the mission emblem with a flag of the US emblazoned on the left shoulder. The right lapel bears the famous NASA ‘meatball’ logo.
