The Williamson Pink Star

-

Auctioned by Sotheby’s in Hong Kong for HK$453.2 million

A 20-minute bidding battle over one of the world’s purest and most saturated pink diamonds resulted in The Williamson Pink Star becoming the second most valuable jewel or gemstone sold at auction. The 11.15-carat, cushion-shaped Fancy Vivid Pink Internally Flawless diamond originated from the Williamson Mine in Tanzania – famous for producing fine ‘bubblegum’ pink diamonds – having been cut and polished from a 32-carat rough diamond by a master Diacore craftsman. Following its purchase by a private collector in the US, it established a world record price of almost US$5.2 million per carat for any diamond or gemstone.
