Hunn Wai

The co-founder and creative director of Lanzavecchia + Wai Design Studio, which focuses on industrial design, Hunn Wai believes that “everything is worthy of better design, from Crocs and fidget spinners to mobile phone cases.” He has been awarded the Young Design Talent of the Year at the Elle Deco International Design Awards, and is one of the pioneering 2016 Generation T listers.

“I love this watch as an object. It demonstrates the absolute craft of the brand and also the bravery and playfulness to re-interpret this 25-year-old icon in this fantastic manner.”

“I’m in love with the subtle Audemars Piguet branding on the gear set in the background.”

“Framed by the very masculine octagonal bezel, it is a triumph of proportion, lines and deftly orchestrated complexity.”

“The dialogue between this ROO’S signature hexagonal screws, the seemingly floating internal flange (that also serves as the dial!), the puzzlework of the movement, the multiple layers of immaculately crafted parts (that facilitate gorgeous transparency) bring the wearer’s eyes on such a great journey of mechanical beauty.”

“I’ve always related the ROO to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s role as the Terminator in that movie franchise, as a kid growing up. Very alphamale and heroic. I imagine the wearer to be of that same vein, in his life and in his industry.”
