THE ITALIAN CONNECTION

To celebrate the Fullerton Building’s 89th anniversary, The Fullerton Hotel Singapore mounted The Italian Connection exhibition to pay tribute to the architectural legacy of Italian sculptor Rodolfo Nolli. Aside from his decorative works on the Fullerton Building, which includes the beautifully retained original ceiling of the present-day Straits Room, Nolli also left his mark on other grand structures along Singapore’s historic waterfront such as the Straits Settlements Coat of Arms on the facade of the Clifford Pier in the early 20th century. At the exhibition’s opening in June, The Fullerton Heritage general manager, Giovanni Viterale, noted to laughter from guests that the Italian spirit and passion in arts and culture go beyond its food and fast cars, while Italian ambassador Paolo Crudele highlighted the importance of cultural partnerships between Singapore and Italy.
