When it comes to style, footballer Antoine Viterale makes a case for looking good on and off the pitch

At age 13, he moved to Europe alone to pursue a professional career, before an ankle injury forced him to take a premature break. While on holiday in Singapore to visit his parents, he made the decision to stay here for good. Playing football in Singapore was never on the cards, but his career took a fateful turn when he was scouted by Hougang United Football Club and landed a professional contract. While Antoine’s career choice requires him to be in sports gear most of the time—he adheres to a strict compulsory twice-daily training regimen—he still believes in putting in effort to look good, even on the training grounds. “I get made fun of all the time. My teammates will ask me ‘Why are you doing this to your hair? Why is your gear so stylish?’ They also like to joke that I tend to buy things a size too small—but I just want my clothes to fit well,” he insists. Even though his father was the one who introduced him to football, the sport isn’t the only thing the two have in common. They are also passionate about collecting luxury timepieces. “While I do like luxury brands such as Rolex, I feel Tag Heuer suits me better because of its sporty designs.” It comes as no surprise that Antoine admires fellow footballer David Beckham’s chameleon-like style. He describes his own style as classy but quite flamboyant, as evidenced by the batik shirt-and-fitted white jeans combo he sometimes favours. “I like to dress well. It’s the Italian influence in me. I’ve always liked to look and feel good.”
