No one does romantic beach getaways quite like the Maldivians do, discovers Elizabeth Lee

here are arguably a few things more romantic than a stroll down the beach at sunset—even more so when it is along the stunning shores of the Maldives. But in a country where beautiful resorts are the reason for a booming tourist economy, how does one go about choosing the best spot for a honeymoon? Of all the luxurious abodes to be found, Cheval Blanc Randheli stands out thanks to its stunning location and unbeatable hospitality. The Cheval Blanc experience begins the moment we touch down in the Maldives. Once out of immigration, we are chauffeured to a private lounge where we await, drink in hand, for our de Havilland Twin Otter seaplane to arrive. The journey from Male airport is about 40min, but a bird’s-eye view of the pristine white beaches and unspoiled Noonu Atoll waters along the way means we are too busy snapping Instagram-worthy pictures to notice the time flying by. As the island of Randheli slowly comes into view, it is surreal how picturesque everything looks. Check-in is literally a breeze, as our majordomo (personal butler) introduces himself, greets us by name, hands us a drink and towels to freshen up, and directs us to a buggy that takes us straight to our villa.
