It was a night filled with colour, music and culture at the Muscular Dystrophy Association Singapore (MDAS) Benefit Gala 2018 in September. With a theme like “A Night in Brazil”, it was no wonder that guests came dressed to the nines in prints, feathers and fruits—the plastic form of the latter used to decorate spectacular headdresses. One of the best-dressed prizes for the night went to Linda Soo-tan, who was togged in head-to-toe Dolce & Gabbana, from her sequinned fruit turban to heels in the shape of pineapples. Organised to raise awareness and funds for individuals impacted by muscular dystrophy, the event was graced by Brazil ambassador Flávio Soares Damico and his wife Rosa. The latter graciously strutted down the runway during a millinery fashion show by homegrown hat label Eskpade. Throughout the evening, guests were kept entertained with performances by singer Maya Raisha, songwriter and vocal coach Luka Bjelis, who presented a lively piano segment, along with samba music and dance acts. Over $240,000 was raised that evening, including the proceeds from a raffle draw and a live auction that featured paintings by the beneficiaries of MDAS. The evening ended on a high, but not before guests descended upon the dance floor moving to the sounds of samba.
