Aregular fixture on the society circuit, Fanty Soenardy is always out and about attending charity galas, fashion engagements, catching up with friends and basically living it up! But beneath the trendy Dior dresses, modish Christian Louboutin boots and perfectly coiffed hair, the stylish dresser always puts family first. “I’ve been driving my children to school every morning since they were in kindergarten. It’s my duty as a mother,” says the mother of two teenagers. After dropping her daughter Louisa and son Dillon off at school, Fanty returns home to prepare breakfast for her businessman husband, Douglas Ong. She then goes about her own activities, which include going for Muay Thai classes and learning to fly a Cirrus SR22 aircraft. “Regardless of how busy I am, I’ll always make time to pick my children up from school and enjoy quality time bonding with them,” she explains, adding that she still cooks dinner for them even when she has an evening appointment. “I believe in ensuring that they get well-balanced and nourishing meals.” In fact, food is the social glue that binds the Ong family together. That is why Fanty places great importance on family meals. “This is when we update each other on the latest happenings in our lives. If anyone of us is troubled, we discuss and resolve the issue together. Similarly, if we have a piece of good news, we celebrate together. Such sharing sessions during mealtimes have brought us closer as a family and keeps us united,” she says. Clearly, Fanty derives joy and satisfaction from taking care of her family, keeping them well fed and contented, and being actively involved in their lives. While these keep her busy throughout the day, they are also the secret booster she “ingests” to keep her happy and glowing every day.
