Be­neath Ecuador’s Co­topaxi vol­cano, the in­dige­nous tex­tile ar­ti­sans of Salasaca, known af­fec­tion­ately as El Pulga, pre­serve the re­gion’s pat­ri­mony by hand-weav­ing tra­di­tional de­signs on their ta­pes­tries. They do this us­ing wooden looms, with­out the help of any elec­tri­cal ma­chin­ery.
