In 2010, he won a wine spon­sor­ship to Mar­garet River, and was also one of the youngest re­cip­i­ents to be awarded a schol­ar­ship to Bordeaux and Rhone Val­ley by World Gourmet Sum­mit in 2011. Joel di­rects the wine pro­gramme of two-miche­lin­starred Shisen Hanten and Takayama, a fine din­ing kappo restau­rant.
