Tan­door has been serv­ing au­then­tic North­ern Indian cuisine since 1985. The spa­cious but cosy-feel­ing restau­rant is ef­fi­ciently run by a hand­ful of staff, who never miss a beat as they at­tend to ev­ery ta­ble with skill and warmth. Sim­ple but re­as­sur­ingly home­made flavours rule the roost here. In vegetable-based dishes, the spices are blended and cooked to pre­cise con­sis­tency. The use of Szechuan pep­per to sea­son the tan­door prawns pro­duces a de­light­ful ef­fect; the grassy, flo­ral fra­grance adds a uniquely ap­petis­ing ac­cent. Mango curry may sound un­usual, but the ex­otic trop­i­cal fruit’s ripeness blends eas­ily with roti, rice and es­pe­cially with other meat cour­ses. The ex­pertly baked tawa meen fish is sim­ply ex­quis­ite, its flesh still whole while the gen­tle yel­low spices give it a sweet aroma. There are good rea­sons why some es­tab­lish­ments with­stand the test of time—tan­door is a good ex­am­ple. De­light­ful cooking, per­son­able service and rel­a­tively good value keeps its cus­tomers happy.
