Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant
Wan Hao is a traditional Chinese restaurant that’s perfect for diners who are looking for comfort food in a slightly more upmarket environment. With numerous items on the menu, a combination of specialities and “home-cooked food” makes for a wonderfully balanced meal. The pork ribs in mandarin orange sauce are a delight; the ribs are coated in flour and deepfried to perfection before being glazed in sweet, tangy mandarin orange sauce. Thumbs up to the soon hock cooked in Wan Hao special superior stock, too. The 600g fish is portioned into two—half for deep-frying and half for cooking in the stock, which gives the pot a lot of wholesome goodness and texture. The fish is prepared with minimal seasoning to allow the natural juices of the ingredients to take the lead. Wine offerings are limited, as teas dominate the drinks list. Ask the friendly servers for recommendations; they’re more than happy to help.
