Start with the seafood on ice, which includes tiger prawns, stone crab claw and mussels, and dip their sweet flesh into the various condiments such as the Thai chilli garlic sauce. For a more spicy kick, have the kueh pie tee. You assemble them yourself, stuffing turnips, shredded egg omelette and prawn into the crispy shells, but the kicker here is the gingery, sweet-spicy sauce, with just enough heat to have you coming back for more. Also try the laksa—bee hoon noodles are used here, topped with ingredients such as quail eggs, prawns and fishcakes. Other dishes such as Chinese herbal prawns, braised duck and braised ee fu noodles are also full of comforting flavour. Consider yourself satiated only when you’ve had the chocolate butter pudding. Perfectly crisp on top, but super-moist inside, it goes extremely well with the vanilla sauce. The waitstaff deserve special mention, too. Generally polite and unobtrusive, they’re also attentive to your needs—we had trouble with the stone crab claw, but without having to ask, a cracking tool was brought to the table.
