The char kway teow is the classic wok-fried rice noodles with prawns, Chinese sausage, chives, egg, bean sprouts and soya sauce. Traditiona­l desserts include nonya kueh, peanut-filled pancakes and delightful­ly rich chendol with tender green noodles and fragrant gula Melaka, drizzled with coconut milk. Teh tarik (frothy milk tea) is recommende­d for the fragrance and taste of pure unadultera­ted tea; beer and limited house wines are also available.
