RESTAURANT GAIG
16 Stanley Street, S(068735) Gaig is a bright and cosy space that serves tasty, rustic Spanish fare. Its founder and chef is Carles Gaig, one of Barcelona’s most celebrated sons. The menu is a mix of classics and slightly modern creations. Gaig and resident chef de cuisine Esteve Garcia Vilanova dip into the 19th century, with dishes such as beef- and pork-stuffed cannelloni, sauced with truffle cream, and a quail, Alcantara-style. These dishes, for today’s modern diners, might be a tad on the heavy side, so be sure to ask manager and co-owner Núria Gibert (Gaig’s daughter) for recommendations based on your preferences. Recommended is the seafood fideuà, a traditional Catalan paella-like dish that uses noodles instead of rice, as well as squid ink for a shock of unctuousness and colour.
