165 Tanjong Pagar Road, S(088539) TEL: 6227 3848/6879 2655 There’s a certain tranquillity to a meal at Silk Road, whether it’s thanks to the bamboo-lined entryway to the calm ambience inside—with dimmed lighting, muted fabric tones, wood floors and lattice partitions, the views of trees through the plate-glass windows visible from a few tables—or the private dining room with silkupholstered chairs. The expansive menu has a dizzying range of dishes, with enough choice to sate any diner, and with textures and flavours faithfully executed. The specialities justify their reputation, with the sliced pork beautifully presented in a rack; the pork is odourless, its softness contrasting with the crunchy cucumber. The Beijing duck is tender, while the mapo tofu has a clean, sharp heat courtesy of generous doses of chilli padi. The wine list only has one house red and one white available by the glass (both from Chile). Service is warm and brisk.
