After a shopping spree on Orchard, it’s easy to be tempted by the delicious Chinese food at this casual restaurant in the basement of Takashimaya. Order the assorted xiao long bao to share; it comprises four tempting flavours including chilli crab, a local favourite, and salted egg yolk, a more modern offering. Noodles are always a must-try here and you can’t go wrong with the Szechuan dan dan la mian. It’s not your typical dish, as the original spicy-sour sauce uses sweet peanuts for richer and rounder flavours. Other than dim sum and noodles, you can try main courses such as roasted duck with basil leaf. The first thing that entices is it’s thin and crisp skin, which offers a nice contrast of texture to the tender meat. If you’re dining in a big group, include an order of the Wuxi deep-fried whitebait, which is tender and served dressed in an indulgent sweet-and-sour sauce.
