ENGLISH HOUSE BY MARCO PIERRE WHITE, THE

Marco Pierre White’s The English House represents the iconic chef’s colonial fantasy, brought to life through antiques and a menu that, while anachronistic, is actually quite delicious. White’s cookery is spot on, polishing up classic British fare until it sparkles and adding a few nods to Singapore along the way. The Alba white truffle pasta with soft hen’s eggs is rich and indulgent, and the addition of the 36-month-aged vintage Parmesan cuts through the creaminess. While not a steakhouse per se, the culinary team does steaks perfectly, too. The 45-day dry-aged grilled rib of Black Angus beef is grilled until it’s extremely tender, then it’s elevated with escargot garlic butter, béarnaise sauce, mushrooms and a side of creamed spinach. Prices have also been adjusted, so what was once a place that would have you doing a double-take when you looked at the menu is now comparable to any other top eatery in town.
