The menu at La Brasserie is at once pleasingly varied and wellcurate­d with fresh appetisers such as the lobster and scallop carpaccio with black truffle, and sautéed prawns and chorizo leading the way. The butcher’s block section of the menu tempts in all the right places, from the light beef tartare to the highly recommende­d filet mignon Rossini, but the star of the menu is the grilled côte de boeuf—a thyme butter-basted ribeye on the bone that’s rendered to classic perfection. The extensive wine list is equally tantalisin­g, spanning the Old and New World with bright new additions set against a backdrop of old favourites. Try the Domaine Louis Moreau Les Clos Chablis Grand Cru 2010, which is buttery and crisp, and the perfect wine with any of the cold appetisers. To complement the beef cuts, go with the Domaine de Montille Les Cras Pommard Burgundy 2015. Service is warm and sincere.
