A popular restaurant for Chinese wedding banquets, Peony Jade also serves up excellent Cantonese cuisine for all other occasions. The tea-smoked duck is plump and tender, and redolent with the aromas of Sichuan camphor wood and tea leaves. Served with pillowy buns, lettuce and sweet sauce, this dish is not to be missed. The prawns with salted egg are perfectly deep-fried and tossed in a distinctiv­e and delicious salted egg sauce. Even a simple dish such as fried rice is given a twist here; jasmine rice is fried with egg white and scallops. While the resulting dish looks paler than most restaurant­s’ fried rice, the flavours pack a punch. For dessert, the durian mochi is a local favourite. While they look somewhat hurriedly made, the mochi balls are filled with a generous amount of durian flesh—a definite winner for fans of this local fruit.
