The Dempsey Hill food enclave has become more vibrant with the addition of Canchita Peruvian Cuisine—a restaurant that seems to transport diners to another world with its lush botanical theme. Chef-owners Tamara Chavez and Daniel Chavez offer an extensive menu that serves as a delicious introduction to Peruvian cuisine. There are several standouts, but highly recommended are the arroz con mariscos and the lomo saltado. The arroz con mariscos is a flavoursome seafood rice infused with crab butter and white wine, and topped with sweet crayfish, Peruvian panca chilli and tomatoes, while lomo saltado is a meaty dish of stir-fried beef tenderloin combined with sweet tomatoes, onions, green peas and fries for a delectable mix of textures and flavours. The very capable general manager Celvin Chiang leads a team of efficient and intuitive service staff who go out of their way to make the dining experience stellar for all.
