Wah Lok has been serving redoubtable Cantonese cuisine since 1988 and has rightfully taken its place in the pantheon of such establishments in Singapore. By consistently providing very good food in a comfortable setting, the restaurant has garnered a loyal following for lunch (when dim sum takes centrestage) and dinner (when the food becomes more serious but no less well executed). The deep-fried century egg wrapped with minced shrimp is worth trying. The Peking duck is decent and comes with the pancake wrap for the skin—readymade; no effort required for the diner. Another standout is the braised crab meat wrapped with egg white in red carrot soup—an absolute triumph (both aesthetically and in the taste). This makes it a first-class establishment for diners who know what they like; like what they know, and come back to the restaurant frequently for the comfort factor in always getting what they expect.
