Stroke Of Genius
THIS AWARD-WINNING HOME BY DESIGN INTERVENTION MAXIMISES ITS VERDANT VIEWS, WHILE PEPPERING ITS TRANQUIL SPACES WITH ARTISTIC FLOURISHES
To craft a compelling and cohesive interior scheme, it takes not only a keen eye for design but also an astute understanding of the homeowners’ personal styles and way of life. The projects by Design Intervention embody this bespoke approach, with each interior personalised to create truly unique spaces. Led by principal Nikki Hunt and partner Andrea Savage, the firm works across the full spectrum of design, from luxury resorts to residential projects. Hunt and Savage are also co-hosts on the TV series which sees the duo and their team transform drab interiors into dream homes, while sharing useful tips and inspiring ways to decorate. Last December, the Singaporebased design practice ended the year on a high note by winning the accolade for Best Architecture (private residence) in AsiaPacific, at the International Property Awards 2017 in London. Here’s a closer look at their award-winning project:
VILLA BLISS
The property is home to a family of four, who wanted to have a bright and airy home with a calming mood. The husband’s love of gardening is reflected in the flourishing garden, which forms a calming backdrop for restful spaces suitable for reading and contemplation. The site’s hillside topography however, meant that the layout of the villa had to be reconfigured to create open spaces suffused with light while maximising verdant sights of its surrounding greenery. Thoughtful details enhance the home’s sense of space, such as the skylight at the staircase, as well as the large French doors that flood the previously windowless 11m-long corridor with light. A dining banquette has also been positioned to face the outdoor area so that the family could enjoy calming views of the pool at mealtime. Next to it, the striking blue kitchen cabinetry not only makes a statement—it also echoes the serene tiles of the swimming pool.
