Two design firms create dream kitchen concepts for Aurastone

Having started as a young apprentice in stone masonry, Ben Yong could not have imagined that he would eventually run his very own surface brand. In the span of nearly three decades, Yong steadily worked up the ranks to become the supervisor of a factory; he also co-founded a stone fabrication factory in 1998. His passion for stone masonry led him to strike out on his own with the launch of Aurastone in 2016—the Singapore-based brand is a supplier and fabricator of quartz and granite surfaces. “We are a Singapore brand and we’re very proud of it—we believe we have a strong team and good materials that are as good, if not better than some other imported international brands,” shares Yong. “Our materials undergo rigid tests and quality checks before they are shipped to our warehouse in Singapore, and we have an WHAT IS QUARTZ? Quartz is type of engineered stone—a composite material composed of crushed stone, binding polymers and pigments. The rock-like material is water and stain resistant, and more durable than natural stone such as marble, onyx and granite; the latter requires sealing to minimise damage caused by contact with liquids and heat. Quartz surfaces can feature myriad shades and patterns, designed to recreate the appearance of natural stone. New surfaces from Aurastone include the River de Blanc, a white quartz surface with wavy detailing, as well as Verace Marquina, a black quartz with fine lines inspired by the distinctive veining of Nero Marquina marble.
