Bending the Rules
FROM MARBLE-CLAD GUITARS TO BED FRAMES AND SOFAS, MM GALLERI SHOWS THE CREATIVE POSSIBILITIES OF ITS UNIQUE MARBLE BENDING TECHNOLOGY
The polished beauty of marble have enthralled many, and instantly brings a luxurious touch to any interior; yet its rigid quality has also made it difficult to work with. Stone fabricator MM Galleri hopes to change that perception of the material with its revolutionary marble bending technique. Pioneered by the Indonesiaheadquartered firm, this technique is able to slice myriad types of natural stone such as marble and onyx into layers as as thin as 2mm and manipulate their shape without breaking them. The pliable layer can be used as decorative
cladding on furniture or interior surfaces, offering a luxurious finish to any project, be it tables with undulating curves, sculptural bar counters or even an onyx-clad bathtub. The brand’s Singapore showroom also boasts cave-like marble-clad interiors and is an aweinspiring sight that illustrates interior applications of the bended stone technique. Here’s a closer look at its latest designs that feature this innovative technique.
Malleable Forms
MM Galleri has ventured into producing more unconventional products; a stellar example is a new bathroom concept which elevates the shower space into a palatial experience. It features a shower area with sinuous walls clad in a layer of Saint Denis marble and an anti-slip Statuario Angel marble for its flooring. Another key design is the Bended guitar, a fully functional instrument that’s clad in a 2mm-thin layer of teak wood marble.
Beautiful Glow
Other extravagant creations include the Solace bended sofa frame that’s made of onyx pretoria yellow and the Mahisa coffee table that’s made with onyx and travertine. What’s especially striking is its back-lit feature, which gives these pieces a dramatic glow while harnessing the translucent quality of onyx. These designs are just the tip of the iceberg as MM Galleri continuously seeks to refine its stone bending technique to create more breathtaking creations to come.
