THE MAH JONG SOFA FROM ROCHE BOBOIS TAKES CUSTOMISATION TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL

-

Ever since the iconic Mah Jong sofa was designed by Hans Hopfer for French furniture brand Roche Bobois in 1971, the modular seating system has become the centrepiece of stylish abodes around the world. Comprising three basic elements—seat cushion, straight back or corner—that can be stacked, aligned or combined, the Mah Jong sofa affords a wealth of composition options that lets you completely reimagine your living space. The Mah Jong sofa is also available in a new outdoor version that’s upholstered in an array of outdoor textiles. It comprises a wooden structure treated for both rain and shine, as well as trays on the sides and behind the seats for holding towels, glasses or sunscreen. Both indoor and outdoor versions are made in a dedicated workshop using techniques seen in haute couture. Each component is individually handstitched with a method similar to that of mattress-making.

SUNNY OUTLOOK

This seating system has been dressed by some of the most iconic fashion designers and brands from around the globe, including Jean Paul Gaultier, Kenzo Takada and Missoni. These unique collaborations draw upon a wealth of influences that ranges from the unique motifs of traditional Japanese kimonos, bold and modern geometric patterns to retroinspired florals, chevron stripes and nautical prints. Homeowners can also create, customise and visualise their own Mah Jong sofa in 3D and augmented reality (AR) by using the Mah Jong 3D app by Roche Bobois. Start by selecting upholstery textiles from the collections by Jean Paul Gaultier, Kenzo Takada and Missoni Home, and see your virtual creation via realistic 3D renderings and AR projections from all angles, before you even place your order. Customisation has never been so easy.
