BENEATH THE SURFACE For his Outside In collection, Hans Tan breathes new life into old porcelain vases sourced from thrift stores. The Singaporean designer retained elements of the original glazed surface and then juxtaposed these against the exposed white bisque beneath; he has also added ornate patterns inspired by the original decoration. The striking contrast creates a unique decorative object that can complement both Asian-inspired schemes and modern spaces. Available at The Artling; theartling.com

SWEET IDEA The playful and portable Icecream lamp from Lladró features swirling lines inspired by the dessert and is powered by rechargeable batteries. Made of porcelain in a matte white finish, the sinuous curves of the LED lighting piece also channel origami folds and Japanese paper lanterns. The cordless lamp can add to your room’s cosy mood as it emits a gentle glow; it can be used as either a table lamp or a hanging pendant light. Available at Lladró; lladro.com

PRECIOUS THINGS As a ceramic artist from the Aichi prefecture in Japan, Ryosuke Ando continues the region’s craft tradition by creating pieces that pair handmade details with new techniques. After using the mould-casting method to form the product, Ando reshapes the piece by hand to form irregular silhouettes and then carves other decorative elements onto its surface. Selected pieces are also painted with gold and silver details, which add an elegant touch to each item. Available at Huls; huls.com.sg
