Eastern Promises
PRESTIGE GLOBAL DESIGNS CLEVERLY COMBINES ASTUTE SPATIAL PLANNING WITH ASIAN INFLUENCES AND FENGSHUI WISDOM IN THIS STYLISH APARTMENT
With the birth of their son, the owners wanted to create a home sweet home for their family. The adoring parents wanted their toddler to grow up in a nurturing environment, so they found a cosy apartment nestled in the Newton area. The search for the right designers to create the home of their dreams proved to be quite straightforward—the couple discovered the work of Prestige Global Designs in Singaporetatlerhomes, and felt an instant connection with what they sought to achieve.
The owners wanted the home to fulfil fengshui requirements, yet without compromising on a luxurious and cosy ambience set in a light and bright interior. They
also desired a walk-in wardrobe in the master bedroom, as well as ample storage space in the house. Led by Michael Ong and Jeremy Tay, the design studio took up the challenge, adhering to the strict requirements while creating a home that meets the needs of the family.
GO WITH THE FLOW
Ensuring that they follow the dictates of fengshui principles was a key requirement for the project. One such prerequisite included the placement of an L-shaped sofa against the wall in the living room. However, the original wall was too narrow
to fit the sofa. To address the problem, the firm installed a decorative screen that extends the length of the wall and adds a luxurious touch to the living area. Made with glass and gold silk, this screen incorporates display shelves with built-in lighting, providing an opportunity to showcase the couple’s favourite vases and ornaments.
The home’s fengshui requirements influenced not only the spatial planning of the abode and placement of each piece of furniture, but also the home’s overall interior concept. The firm’s creative interpretation of the brief channelled Eastern elements into the understated design scheme through the subtle use of gold trimmings and Asianinspired art. These include a series of artworks installed in the dining area, assembled by Jeremy Tay, director of Prestige Global Designs. Comprising an array of chopsticks and chopstick holders, the art creatively highlights the culinary theme of the space while adding visual interest to the dining area.
SET THE TONE
Careful colour selection ensured that each room had a different mood. Gold and yellow are used sparingly in the living room and accented with decorative pieces such as the table lamps and the geometric rug; the earthy palette keeps the look glamorous yet understated. The colour scheme continues in the master bedroom, where pops of colour in the form of the mustard yellow ottoman and accent cushions add texture to the space. The master suite was also transformed and reorganised—the entrance of the bedroom was relocated to fit the walk-in wardrobe and to brighten the space with more daylight. Pastel walls and animal wall decals create a playful atmosphere in the nursery, while the light wood furnishings keep the space cosy. “We wanted to create something functional yet light-hearted in this room,” said Tay. “We created a full-height cabinet to house the toys and books and used pale green on the walls to give a fresh look to this space.”
The study, on the other hand, has a more subdued mood with a serene grey palette.

Completed within three months, the studio is proud of their work and happy to hear that the family loves their new home. “The most enjoyable part of the project was to select the right materials and finishes with the clients, and to receive a thank-you card with a heart-warming message from them after the project was completed,” shares Tay.
