A Glittering Year
DESIGN INTERVENTION ENTERS A NEW DECADE WITH CONFIDENCE AND A SLEW OF INTERNATIONAL ACCOLADES
ingapore-based studio Design Intervention concluded the year with a bang—the firm took home seven accolades, most notably the World’s Best Designed Home, at the International Property Awards 2019 for projects in Singapore and Australia. This achievement is a testament to the studio’s global acclaim, its everexpanding capabilities and its holistic design approach.
In its 15 years of history, the studio has captivated the attention of design aficionados worldwide. The practice won its first global award in 2016 and has been consistently published in many of the world’s most prestigious publications. The firm has also been listed six times in the past seven editions of Interior Design Review, a prestigious compendium edited by British journalist Andrew Martin that rounds up the world’s top 100 interior design firms.
CREATIVE PROGRESSION
The studio started as a onewoman operation in 2004. A graduate of the London
School of Economics, founder Nikki Hunt made a gradual pivot to professional interior design with a variety of design and decorating projects. Business was flourishing, and the firm grew steadily as its work drew glowing reviews from homeowners. Partner Andrea Savage joined the firm in 2010, and the rest is history.
Today, the practice is a 26-strong studio operating out of a beautifully preserved colonial house on Loewen Road. The firm’s services may have expanded to include a broad range of design services across typologies, but its objective remains the same. “Our greatest achievement will always be the creation of environments that put a smile on the faces of our clients,” shares Hunt.
EMBRACING DIVERSITY
“The strength of our studio is rooted in our diversity,” says Savage. The team comprises specialists in interior design, interior architecture and product and lighting design, who work to achieve a cohesive design in every project. Both Hunt and Savage are also familiar faces on the regional design scene, having hosted a home makeover show on HGTV.
Design Intervention is also about giving back to the community and nurturing the next generation of designers. In 2015, the studio launched the Young Designer Award, an annual programme open to interior design students in Singapore that aims to nurture their careers in the field of residential design.
