VINCENT VAN DUYSEN’S LATEST FURNITURE COLLECTION FOR MOLTENI&C | DADA IS A CONTEMPORARY TAKE ON THE TIMELESS MID-CENTURY MODERN AESTHETIC
The Molteni&c | Dada presentation at Milan Design Week last April drew praise for its updated take on mid-century architecture. Designed by the brand’s creative director, Vincent Van Duysen, the fair stand and the furniture collection displayed in it were a tribute to the houses of some of the greatest 20thcentury architects, updated with contemporary sensibilities to cater to the way we live today. This collection has made its way to our shores courtesy of luxury furniture purveyor P5.
PLAYFUL PROPORTIONS
One of the centrepieces of the 2019 collection is the Gregor modular sofa range by Van Duysen. Today’s living spaces are much more casual compared to those a few decades ago, with blurred boundaries and multifunctional pieces that can traverse realms with ease. Gregor reflects this through a play on low proportions, varied thicknesses and diverse materials. Generous cushions meet a precise, linear metal base. The leather-clad base extends to the side, creating an armrest that doubles as a small side table. “It can be used in a wide range of compositions or as single units, from the typical two- or threeseater sofa to an elegant daybed,” says Van Duysen.
MULTIFUNCTIONAL MAGIC
Another one of Van Duysen’s designs, Irving, is a family of storage and display units.
The designer describes Irving as “the archetype of a sideboard”, which is elegantly elevated by its distinct T-shaped metal base. Irving features a handsome material palette: the top is marble (available in Orient
Grey or Calacatta Gold), and the compartments are timber (available in eucalyptus or walnut). It mixes open and closed areas with functional drawers and pull-out trays, creating a dynamic composition that looks right at home in any corner of your living or dining room.
