“Architecturally, the Singapore fabric has been changing so much and now interiors are playing a bigger role as well,” says designer Peter Tay, who has worked on units in many of the city’s top projects, as well as showf lats for upcoming developments such as Guoco Midtown, a 200-unit tower in Beach Road.
Tay says he wants his interiors to “have a Singapore identity” that mirrors the distinctive architecture of the buildings in which they are housed. That means tailoring his approach to each individual space, working to frame exterior views and “creating a language and an identity” based on the architecture. In the case of Nouvel 18 (on the left), he made ample use of ref lective materials to mirror the building’s glass facade.
