Homeward Bound
A beautiful home is the sum of its parts—it’s a creative expression of your personal taste and lifestyle, as well as a soothing space to create cherished memories. At Tatler Homes Singapore, we make it our mission to showcase well-conceived designs and spaces that excite and inspire, in hopes that we provide creative fodder while uplifting your mood in these extraordinary times.
With social distancing and remote working set to continue, consider design upgrades that don’t require renovation works. For instance, incorporate room dividers and multifunctional pieces into your living area to carve out spaces for work and play (page 46). You could also add character to your home while celebrating Singaporean ingenuity with our pick of collections from local brands at Tatler Homes Curates, our newly launched online store (page 28). Some of these items work beautifully as gifts, too. We also pick out elegant lamps by Asian designers (page 42) and red accent pieces that will make sprightly additions to your abode (page 44).
The upheaval caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the climate crisis has emphasised the need for more sustainable ways of improving our built environment while creating a haven to call our own. If you’re currently on a house hunt, these are the property trends to keep in mind (page 68), while on the search for your dream home.
We also look at what lies ahead for our city-state as it celebrates its 55th year this August—we speak to architects who discuss how biophilic design can promote our connection to nature within the urban landscape. Profiled in this piece are the visionary minds behind upcoming projects in Singapore such as the Mandai eco-resort, the One Pearl Bank condominium, and the redevelopment of the Sentosa-brani islands (page 74).
Elsewhere in the magazine, get more inspiration from a variety of homes crafted by local practices. These span a broad spectrum of styles and inf luences, ranging from a unique house by EHKA Studio which lands on our cover (page 100 and this page) to the penthouse projects by Millihaus (page 114), Prestige Global Designs (page 122) and Design Intervention (page 132). Further afield, we found a stylish pied-à-terre in London (page 158) that showcases wonderful ways to create characterful spaces within a compact f loor plan.
Ultimately, we all desire homes that stand the test of time, while being a comforting respite from the daily grind. We hope this issue will provide food for thought and decor inspiration. Happy reading!
